Cast Off
8/1994-Al Diaz/Miami Herald-- As this vessel was pushed out to sea, one exuberant rafter gave the thumbs up, either unaware or concerned about the perils that lay ahead. Late summer has traditionally been a time when many rafters try to catch the Gulf Stream. The Stream comes in a southernly direction out of the Gulf of Mexico, brushes the Cuban coast, and then curves north toward Florida.
