  • The onset of the coronavirus pandemic means the Vior Funeral Home is busier now than ever before. According to Jorge Rivero, the funeral home's owner and director, his business is dealing with one COVID-19 case per day -- that's in addition to deaths caused by other illnesses, of which he's also noticed an uptick. Until now, every single COVID-19 case the Vior Funeral Home has dealt with has been cremated, though families can also choose to bury their loved ones in body bags. Because cemeteries are limiting their hours of operation due to the pandemic, the funeral home has to hold on to bodies longer, with several caskets currently lining the facility's lobby. Rivero is photographed next to some of these caskets on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. He's holding an urn similar to the ones used to hold the remains of coronavirus patients.
