About Al Diaz

Miami photojournalist Al Diaz has been presented the 2015 Humanitarian Award by the National Press Photographers Association and the Associated Press Media Editors Showcase Photo of the Year. 

He is a member of The Miami Herald staff that won the Pulitzer Prize Public Service Gold Medal for the newspaper's coverage of Hurricane Andrew and team member that won the McClatchy President's Award for Journalism Excellence for coverage of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Diaz was honored with a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for portraits of disadvantaged families during the holidays in 1993.

He joined the photography staff at the Miami Herald in 1983 upon graduating from the University of Florida. Diaz takes pride in always being ready before the moment.
